On 9 April 2025, Perenco announced the successful conclusion of the UK’s first CO₂ injection test for carbon capture and storage (CCS). Bofort was proud to share its CO₂ material handling expertise and provide liquid CO₂ ISO tank containers and related equipment for this offshore test.
The Poseidon Project plans to store CO₂ permanently in the depleted Leman gas field in the UK Southern North Sea. Injection is planned to start in 2029 at 1.5 million tonnes per year, rising to 40 million tonnes per year.
The test started in February 2025 at the Leman 27H platform. Liquid CO₂ was delivered in 11 batch refills, feeding 15 injection cycles from Petrodec’s ERDA rig. Perenco reported that the programme ran safely and delivered “an exceptional dataset”.
After Project Greensand in Denmark, Poseidon again shows that cryogenic ISO tank containers are a practical way to get liquid CO₂ to offshore storage sites today.
