Bofort originates and enables unprecedented Carbon removal initiative
On October 23, 2024, Swiss outdoor sports company Mammut announced a CO2 removal initiative as part of their decarbonization strategy to halve their emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. The initiative centres around Carbonaide, a Finnish company specialized in concrete carbonization technology, and ARC, a Danish waste management company.
Antwerp based Bofort connected ARC and Carbonaide. Together with integrator Regaco, Bofort logistically enables the CO2 captured by ARC to be safely and efficiently delivered to Carbonaide, which utilizes the CO2 by mineralizing and storing it into concrete.
This is just one of the projects in which Bofort is involved to help reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Thanks to Bofort’s network and its capability to efficiently organize and execute both small and medium-size liquid CO2 supply chains, projects like this can be executed safely and reliably today, allowing for easy scale-up in the phases to follow.
The benefit of Carbonaide’s technology is twofold: in addition to storing the CO2 in concrete, it also allows for reduced cement consumption in the concrete production process. The lower cement consumption results in a significantly lower CO2-footprint of the concrete and lowers cost.
